Entrance fees to the archaeological sites.

Entrance ticket to Akropolis: A ticket package is issued for the 6 archaeological sites of Athens (the Akropolis site and the Akropolis Museum, the Ancient Agora, the Theatre of Dionysus, the Kerameikos cemetary, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the Roman Agora = 12.00 euros for the adults, reduced 6.00 euros. Reduced admission is for students from countries outside the E.U. and citizens of the E.U. aged over 65)
Free admission is allowede to all persons under 18 and university students from Greece and the E.U., students of Classical Studies or Fine Arts from countries outside the E.U., members of the ICOM-ICOMOS, tour guides, journalists and persons possessing a free admission card.
Days of free admission for all visitors are on Sundays for the period between 1 November and 31 March, the first Sunday of every month, except for July, August and September (when the first Sunday is holiday, then the second is the free admission day, etc.), national holidays, the 6 March (in memory of Melina Mercouri), 18 April (International Monuments Day), 18 May (International Museums Day), 5 June (International Environment Day), and the last weekend of September every year (European Heritage Days).

 

 

Working Hours for Museums & Sights

MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE WORKING HOURS because the days and hours for the museums and sites vary. They are usually open daily 8:30 to 3:00pm except one weekday (usually Monday), although in summer, depending on personnel available, the hours are extended to as late as 7:00 pm; throughout the year arrive at least 30 minutes before closing time to ensure a ticket. Winter hours apply from about November through mid-April.

Archaeological sites and museums remain closed on January 1, March 25, the morning of Orthodox Good Friday, Orthodox Easter, May 1, and December 25-26. Sunday visiting hours apply to museums on: Epiphany; Ash Monday, Good Saturday, Easter Monday, and Pentecost (Greek Orthodox dates, which change every year); August 15; and October 28. Museums close early (around 12:30) on January 2, the last Saturday of Carnival, Orthodox Good Thursday, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve.

Business working Hours

Banks are normally open from Monday -Thursday between 8.00am. - 2.30pm, and Fridays 8.00am. - 2:00pm.

Money exchange offices and Hotel receptions exchange foreign money, while the AMERICAN EXPRESS Bank at Akadimias Street exchanges the traveler's checks without charging the bearers any commission. Most banks have ATMs that accept cards on the Plus or Cirrus system.

Government offices are open from 8.00am. to 2.00 pm.

Shops are open Mon, Wed & Sat 09.00am. – 03.30pm. and Tue, Thu & Fri 09.00am. – 2.00pm. and again from 5.00pm. – 8.00pm. On Saturday shops open from 09.00 till 03.00pm, while they are closed on Sunday. Supermarkets and kiosks may stay open till 09.00pm.
More specifically, in the centre of large urban areas as well as in tourist areas, tourist shops and kiosks are open from early in the morning till late at night, seven days a week.
