Take a tour of one of
the oldest cities in the world and admire the
culture that made Athens the centre of arts,
learning and philosophy. The tour includes an
overview of the modern city and the contrast with
its glorious past.
Start the tour at 08.45 driving to the "all marble" PANATHINAIKO STADIUM
where the first modern Olympic Games took place in 1896 (short stop for photos).
Today the stadium is the finishing line of the Athens' original marathon run, every year at the
end of October.
Drive around the National Gardens and the Zappeion Conference
and Exhibition Hall, to the Roman emperor Hadrian's Arch, the entrance to
the city, next to the temple of Zeus, followed by St. Paul's Church, the Anglican church in Athens.
The Parliament building with the Tomb of the Unknown soldier, guarded also by colourful
Evzones, is the heart of Athens.
The House of Schlieman (today the Nomismatic Museum),
St. Denis' Catholic Cathedral on Panepistimiou Street,
The three buildings Academy, the old University and the National Library, next to each other,
the Old Parliament building, the Constitution (in Greek Syntagma) Square,
the Russian Orthodox Church, and finally the Acropolis are included in the tour.
Walk through the Propylaea, and visit the Temple of Athena Nike, the Parthenon and the Erechtheion.
When you finish with the sightseeing of the Acropolis hill with the tour guide
you walk to the New Acropolis museum (except on Mondays that the museum is closed).
The new museum of Acropolis is considered as one of the most important archaeological
museums in Greece and ranks among the most important museums of the world.
Remains of the ancient Athenian city can be seen under the glass floor of the museum.
The museum's main attractions such as votives, artefacts of every day life, statues
from archaic period, the beautiful Karyatides...all the surviving treasures of the Acropolis
can be seen together in one place. Of course the Parthenon hall with the metopes,
the pediments and the frieze will impress you, while the placing of the Parthenon follows
the orientation of the original structure.

Driving along the coastal road past the beautiful sandy beaches
of GLYFADA, VOULIAGMENI, VARKIZA and the countless coves, one has a splendid view of the
Saronic Gulf. A crowning feature of the tour Cape SOUNION,
dominated by the spectacular Temple of POSSEIDON overlooking the Aegean sea.
